Home made breakout, Computer: salvaged P4 Compaq with 1 gig RAM that was being thrown out to the garbage Software: (No stinkin' windoze!) Ubuntu 8.04 RTAI from linuxcnc.org EMC2/axis runs as silk. Issues and lessons learned: the y/z carriage is a bit too heavy (iron construction angle) for the y stepper. The y stepper is too weak, lacks resolution and does not take up microstepping.The X axis for this one (the gantry) Built to learn about CNC and to explain geometry to da kid. @alteragnostik Still need to do the full writeup. Depends a lot on what you have at hand (or found in the garbage). I have posted some writeup and code for the pen holder, re-using old HP optodetectors her: korovievskitchen.blogspot.com The control software is EMC www.linuxcnc.org.

JPs custom bike - 1996 Honda 300 - clear title in hand, vin #'s still on both locations of the frame. Bike was just recently transformed into a "monster". - Full custom frame converted to IRS with +6" axles and arched a-arms, all done with DOM tubing. All new tie-rod ends & wheel bearings. New Rincon rear "cushion shocks" used at all 4 corners. Large "D" rings at both ends for strapping to, and a custom rear bumper built for wrapping up a strap. Eiger clear head-light housings with hyper-blue bulbs. All stock Honda plastics w/ stock fender flares. Aftermarket floor-boards. Just under 17" of ground clearance to the frame with the 27's; member of "the bucket club", lol. - Engine is a 1986 350 foreman motor, all fresh. Wiseco 10.25:1 piston with fresh bore, Web "180" performance cam, DID timing chain, ported & polished head with new vesrah valves and fresh valve job, 35% gear reduction, EPI "economy" stall clutch kit w/ new clutch shoes, all new seals(valves, output shafts, etc), K&N filter, custom HMF style muffler w/ no packing to go bad. - Carb tuned to suit via wideband o2 sensor for proper tuning. Aftermarket oil cooler mounted up on the front rack. All the foreman electronics were used, thus the temp sender, wiring, and fan control are in place for an engine fan if wanted. - Front & rear diffs as well as the transfer case all recieved fresh bearings & seals during the build. An Old CD-ROM Drive Plays a CD-RW Disc

Many (though not all) older compact disc drives and audio CD players either will not play or have a great deal of trouble with CD-RW discs. A few will even refuse to play a CD-R. In the case of a CD-RW, this is because the disc itself simply is not as reflective as a CD-R or pressed disc. This early and somewhat cheaply made 1X Philips/LMS CD-ROM drive doesn't seem to mind at all! It is quite happy to read a CD-RW. Date codes on the drive place it around the very late 80s or early 90s. It's my understanding that the MediaVision Pro Audio Spectrum card was actually a pretty good sound card for its day. Although Compaq's business audio is decent and has the benefit of playing through the system's internal speaker, it does not support anything beyond WAVE playback or capture from a microphone or line input. There is no MIDI support. (It can support full duplex operation, however.) I believe that "LMS" stood for Laser Memory Systems. I could well be wrong. The drive actually says what it means, but I was feeling lazy and did not care to take it out. (This is because part of its installation involved super glue.)
